The Arc Centre, Bridgend (AKA Ty R ‘Ardd)

The scheme comprised the construction of a Mental Health Resource Centre together with drainage and external site works.

The scheme was awarded to us via a competitive tender route and presented many logistical problems most notably that the development virtually took up the whole foot print of the site. To overcome this, we negotiated the rental of a small parcel of land adjacent to the site. Works included auger drilled concrete piling, concrete ring beams and concrete retaining walls, block and beam floors, insulation, cement screed with under floor heating.

The super structure comprised a steel frame with double skin block work infill and clad with copper and rendered panels. The building has an intricate curved Copper high level roof with single ply membrane lower roof.

The scheme won best’ Large Commercial’ at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) 2010.
